The Software Interface

Unlike previous All-In-Wonder multimedia cards, this card has ATI's first DVB-T enabled TV Tuner. This means that ATI's software, MultiMedia Center, had to undergo some slight modifications in order to accept the DVB functionality present in the new MT2121 tuner.

At the moment, we understand that some areas of the UK will not be able to make use of the DVB-T tuner in Windows XP, but will work fine under Windows XP Media Center Edition, for which this card is certified. We had no such problems with getting the DVB-T tuner to work under Windows XP, so all of our testing was confined to Windows XP Professional, rather than installing Media Center Edition in order to show the DVB-T functionality and image quality. However, we understand that ATI are working to resolve this slight issue in an update to the beta version of MMC that they supplied to us.

The desktop interface remains very similar with the subtle addition of the DTV button, while the interface for DTV is exactly the same as it is for the television and other media players within ATI's MMC software - we covered them here. Please refer back to that for some more information on the many features that are available to the All-In-Wonder X800GT. ThruView desktop still remains our favorite mode included in ATI's MMC Software; work while you watch TV - brilliant idea!

Obviously, the All-In-Wonder 9600 XT didn't have DVB-T functionality, so we're keen to show the differences between the two tuning modes.
